Fundus Camera

A fundus camera is an advanced and specialized tool in veterinary ophthalmology used to examine and capture high-resolution images of the internal structures of the eye, particularly the retina, optic nerve, and retinal blood vessels. It enables direct visualization of the animal’s fundus and allows veterinarians to detect pathologic or abnormal changes with high precision.

In animals—especially dogs, cats, horses, and laboratory animals many ocular diseases affect the retina, optic disc, and retinal vasculature. Therefore, a fundus camera plays a crucial role in the early diagnosis of conditions such as hereditary retinal blindness, retinal inflammation, progressive retinal atrophy, vascular disorders, optic disc swelling (papilledema), and even systemic indicators like hypertension or diabetes.

Main Components of a Fundus Camera:

  • Uses LED or xenon light to evenly illuminate the eye.
  • Ensures a clear and detailed view of the fundus.

  • Captures high-resolution images and stores them in the device’s memory.
